UK Subs
UK SUBS were part of the original punk rock movement that formed in 1976. And they are still doing their thing, returning to Bridgehouse II, Canning Town, on Saturday, January 9.

Led by founder,Charlie Harper, their style combined the energy of punk and the rock and roll edge of the then thriving pub rock scene. The band released singles such as Stranglehold,Warhead (played in the hit movieThis Is England),Teenage, and Tomorrow's Girls, with several of their songs enteringTop 40.

They played several John Peel sessions in 1977 and 1978 for BBC Radio 1, and then signed a recording contract with GEM Records.

With GEM,the UK Subs recorded an album in 1979, called Another Kind of Blues. They also played a few opening gigs forThe Police, as well as recording a set atThe Roxy (a punk club), which was issued in 1980 as Live Kicks.

In the early 1980s, the songs took on a more heavy metal-influenced edge.

They are supported at Bridgehouse II, Bidder Street, by Dun 2 Def, Insane Society, Danger's Close, Ten o Sevens and Mispelt. Tickets are £10, doors open at 4pm.
