Gudjohnsen on target as Spurs down Daggers

STRIKER Eidur Gudjohnsen took under a minute to open his account for Spurs in their training ground friendly against Dagenham & Redbridge on Tuesday afternoon.

Fellow new recruit Younes Kaboul also played the full 90 minutes for the hosts, while the likes of Billy Bingham, Danny Green and Graeme Montgomery featured for Daggers.

Spurs took the lead through Gudjohnsen after Jon Obika charged down a clearance, before Obika netted twice himself to make it 3-0.

Daggers hit back before the break through Wes Thomas, but Gudjohnsen struck again, heading home Jon Bostock's corner midway through the second half.

Spurs development coach Clive Allen said: "Eidur must have scored with his first touch. Jon Obika closed the goalkeeper down, blocked his clearance and the ball spun out to Eidur and he finished from about 12 yards.

"Jon scored two excellent goals after that. His first was a left-foot shot into the top corner from the edge of the box and his second a finish at the far post after a break from Andros Townsend.

"Dagenham scored just before half time to make it 3-1 and Eidur scored his second and our fourth with a near-post header.

"It was ideal for Eidur as he's worked hard with the fitness coaches over the weekend, but he needed a game from a match-fitness point of view and just to get to know everyone.

"It was a real benefit for him."

Daggers: Chris Lewington, Romain Vincelot, Darren Currie, Jack Jeffries, Tommy Tejan-Sie, Billy Bingham, Phil Walsh, Wesley Thomas, Graeme Montgomery, Jon Nurse, Fehmi.

Subs: Steve Demetriou, Charlie Bland, Matthew Polley, Dave Hogan.
